What is sameAs?
- sameAs
- sameAs is a schema.org property listing URLs that refer to the same entity on other sites, typically official profiles on LinkedIn, Crunchbase, Wikipedia, GitHub or X. It is the evidence that resolves a business to one identity, letting an engine connect what a site claims about itself to independent records of the same organisation.
01 In practice
Without sameAs, an Organization node is a self-declaration with nothing corroborating it. With it, an engine can join a site's claims to profiles it already holds facts about, which is what turns a name into a known entity.
The links have to be right. Pointing sameAs at a profile belonging to a different company instructs every engine to merge the two, which is worse than publishing nothing, so an empty sameAs is preferable to a guessed one.
